Recent Projects
- Adirondack Atlas provides geolocation and digital mapping services for the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism/Lake Placid CVB, the accredited Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Lake Placid and Essex County, Franklin County and Hamilton County in New York.
- Adirondack Atlas is working with the Adirondack Foundation to provide data and digital mapping services will allow that organization to track and analyze the effectiveness of their giving across Northern New York.
- Adirondack Atlas provides data collection, database and web mapping services for an EPA-funded project to monitor the effects of climate change on boreal wetlands. Partners include the Adirondack Park Agency, SUNY-ESF and Paul Smith’s College.
- Adirondack Atlas provided the Essex County Department of Health field mapping services and training. Once data collection was complete, the Atlas produced the Department’s map of recreation and healthy living locations in Essex County.
- The Lake George Land Conservancy, not-for-profit land trust for the Lake George Watershed, uses Adirondack Atlas field data collection services for real time updates to the digital maps created and maintained by the Atlas on the Conservancy’s web pages.
- Champlain Area Trails (CATS), a non-profit which creates and maintains hiking and cross-country ski trails in the Champlain Valley, used Adirondack Atlas services to create sharable digital maps of there more than 50 trails, parking areas, and unique locations.
- Adirondack Atlas worked with the Adirondack Mountain Club Northville-Placid Trail Chapter to create a GIS trail asset management system and web map application.
- The State University of New York – College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry’s Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb is using Adirondack Atlas services to produce seasonal web maps delivered by mobile apps.
- The Town of Johnsburg, used Adirondack Atlas’ digital mapping services to produce a digital map of the North Creek Ski Bowl mountain bike trail system.
Staff
Steve Signell was trained as a forest ecologist and has been working in the field of Geographic Information Science (GIS) since 2005. In 2011 he founded Frontier Spatial , LLC, a spatial consulting company specializing in providing open-source database and web mapping solutions for clients in the fields of ecology and the environment. His clients include Terradex, Inc, NESCAUM and many biological field stations such as the Adirondack Ecological Center, the USC Wrigley Institute, Mountain Lake Biological Station and the Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies. Steve is currently working on providing web map portals for several state climate change clearinghouses including New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. Steve is also an adjunct faculty member at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
